Dark Night of the Soul

There are always challenges for us. It is how we hone our sword of spirituality and grow our Divine side. It is the "dark night of the soul" that scares the pants off of us.

Recently I was reminded of two sayings which I love and they reflect how we face our challenges. It is so easy to go into the 'whine' mode or the 'lack' mode. We can let ego take us down a rabbit hole.

The first statement of truth is "If you are going through hell, keep going!" What a profound sense, yet filled with common sense. When we get caught up in depression or anger or get numb the steps to get out are all around movement. Do something!

So as usual in so many of my blogs we come down to the most important thing. It is to keep moving. It is about 'letting go' even though I have said "My letting go is covered with scratch marks." I have a friend that after an argument who will often want to continue to argue - even when it is resolved, There is a flow of adrenaline and good endorphins in the midst of a good and spirited argument. But in the end are seeing each other? Look into the eyes for it is the gateway to the soul.

Here's to gaining a spiritual practice around moving along and going with the flow of the river of life. Someone once said the universe is a weaving done on a giant loom. We must be aware that cutting a single thread can cause changes everywhere. But it is the floiw; I am thankful we have it/

I'm reminded of the farmer that had a very old mule. It had come to the end of it's days of being able to do mule things. So the farmer was determined to get rid of the mule but didn't want to resort to violence. So he lowered the mule down into the farm well. Then he started to throw dirt down into the well to cover the mule. But the mule had heard of the phrase 'keep moving' so he did. With every clod of dirt shoveled into the well, the mule would life it's feet and take a step up. This continued until the mule's head was above the rim and he could walk out. Keep moving. Stagnation leads to more stagnation which leads tot a loss of hope.

John Mullvaney is a comedian who had a special last week. As he was talking to one of his guests, the guest said he was in the midst of a divorce. John said, "the important thing is that you're going through it, not around it." Bu doing it this way, you are letting go of possible future baggage that will keep you stuck.

My goal in the midst of the blog today is not to get caught up in expectations. An expectation can lead to disappointment when it is in truth just getting caught up in a perception of what should happen.

It is what it is! Such is the flow of life. May you be a willing participant in tha flow..........
