Each day we wake up and face the new day. Years ago I attended Wednesday night services at Christ Unity Church. The Mannings, Associate Ministers at the church, ran the service.
They would open each Wednesday service with a hymn which stated, "This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made. We will be glad, we will be glad and rejoice in it."
Thus each morning we have another blessed day. Yesterday I woke up in that magical spiritual place we all start with. It's that moment when we first open our eyes. We ar in a place of spirit yet not fully in our bodies. It is as if we are eighteen with no pain.
Then I roll over and all hell breaks loose. My forty-five years of arthritis reminds me of all the places on my body that hurt. My knee infection yells at me and suddenly I am so tired.
It is at that exact moment for all of us that we decide what kind of day we will have. Yes, it is our choice! Are we going to have the flow of a superb day or will we decide it will be a day of suffering and whining.
Each challenge I face is an opportunity to get better. Resistance and adversity are the sandpaper which smooths out all our rough edges. We learn how to be stronger by facing things ahead that try our patience and force us to be resilient.
My wife had an herb garden in a four tier high set of planters on a frame in our yard. They stand on small legs and are tied together with snap-ties. Today we had some strong gusts of wind in the morning. We were out amd when we got back the two frameworks had fallen over. There was dirt everywhere. She looked at me and said, "It is what it is." Then she proceeded to take all the herbs out and shovel and rake the dirt off the grass. She is going to re-set it differently.
The Eagles band had a great song called "Get Over It!" The lyrics pointed out that when something comes alonf that is a challenge, deal with it. I say this often - it is why one of the great logos is "Just Do It!"
Talk will only end up being a mental shovel digging a personal rabbit hole. Action provides movement and sooner or later answers. It is how we get things done. So look around and notice the places where you are stuck in talk mode and seem to be going nowhere. Change the talk mode to action mode. Plan a course of action and everything will change.........get over it!
