Storyteller

I am a storyteller. I didn't start off that way but after being both a salesman and a minister, I have grown into it. I think it probably gets in the way sometimes - not everyone wants to hear a story.

But I find life gives us such wonderful stories that are akin to Aesop's fables and Chaucer's tales that in the end they reflect life. I am also blessed to spend my life noting the patterns and how connections provide us with constant lessons. I truly believe that we live in a giant weaving of all our threads and the threads of others. Somewhere sits a giant loom putting together the next level of the beautiful tapestry. I find it so important to not miss this tapestry. We must pay attention to the hues and vibrant colors that surround us. One of the things in a rain forest is that many of the birds have brilliant plumage in order to stand out. Standing out occurs all around us; all we have to do is to keep our eyes open and really see. The world is constantly presenting new adventures that remind us that spirit is in charge of the flow of life.

Many of us growing up are much like rental cars. Rental cars often have a governor placed in the car. This means there is a controlled limit on how fast we can drive the car. Well our parents have placed a governor on our magnificence. Our parents reminded us not to brag and show off. Reframing that sentence is that we are held back from excelling at our best. On two different occasions, I had people I worked with or went to school with sit down with me and tell me to slow down. I was showing up the people around me and they wanted me instead to go the speed of the people around me.

So we have an attitude that is so confusing and contradictory (I speak of this often.). We stand out in our actions and when these actions are recognized we go crazy. We're embarrassed and just want to remain invisible. Yet at the same time we want to stand out. Both of these feelings occur at the same time within us. It makes it difficult to go ahead full speed if we are pulling in two different directions.

This brings up a theme that has raised it's head in the last month of my blogs. It is the part of being authentic. Someone came to me with a situation. A friend was sharing to me that one of her friends was sharing items that seemded to put pressure on my friend. I reminded her that our job in life was not to react. It was to be fully ahtuehtnic and respond from the point of who we are. This is the point that I often will pray, "Let this be my voice but let it be God's words - spirit filled."

So the simple mantra is always respond rather than react. This means coming from a place of personal heart. Then it makes everything powerful and majestic in magnificence...........
